Symbian is known for being notoriously hard to hack. Because of the many many updates they do, it’s hard to continue recreating the software to find extra holes in their patches in order to hack the phone. Hacking a phone is the equivalent of jailbreaking an iPhone. And this Nokia E71 has been hacked! It took me around 3 hours but after that initial getting certificates for the hacking programs etc.., it was pretty easy. To help some people out there that may be faced with this problem also, I’ve listed below the hacking software I used, the software I used to sign the hacking software, and the certificate website I received the certificate from in order to certify the hacking software.
HelloOx2 - this software is fantastic and only requires a simple 17 capabilities certificate which you will find out how to get in the third link. There is a signed version of HelloOx2 but there is also an unsigned version that is a little less noticeable. I used the unsigned version, signed it myself and had no issues.
FreeSigner - FreeSigner is Symbian freeware that you can use to sign third party applications. It’s a handy tool that does not need to be signed itself. Within your Tools >> Settings >> Applications >> App Manager, you will find an option that says Software Installation. Click on this to change it to all, and turn off the online certificate check. This will ensure FreeSigner is installed with no problems.
iSign.iMobile - This is a website in Chinese (obviously by the extension) but it is fairly easy to navigate if you think about how an English website would look. To receive a certificate you need to register, input your phone’s IMEI and wait 3 hours for the certificate request to process.
These programs are the programs that made hacking my E71 the easiest job in the world. Kudos!
