Bashing Through the Bush, In a rusty Holden Ute…

...kicking up the dust, esky in the boot. Kelpie by my side, singing Christmas songs, it’s summer time and I am in, my singlet, shorts & thongs!

That is, ladies and gents, a snippet of the Australian jingle bells. Pretty damn shnazzy if I do say so! As you all know - Australia is the oddball of the world and we have a summer Christmas! And, it is brilliant! I hate the snow…a hot scorching day is the best kind of Christmas day. A barbie by the pool with the fams…present time after lunch and then dessert at 6 to top it all off. Yep, the perfect christmas in my opinion.

On Christmas day we usually go to my mum’s family’s place and have breakfast, have presents, go to my dad’s parent’s place and spend the rest of the day there by the pool. xD. I tell you what - it’s great. A barbecue, the pool, the sweltering heat. It’s going to be a great Christmas day.

Now that you’ve heard about my traditional Christmas - what’s your’s? Do you spend it making snow angels in the freezing cold…sitting around a giant turkey with mistletoe over the top of every lover or maybe you don’t even celebrate Christmas?

  1. Like you, we have summer Christmases here in NZ too. Growing up, we’d have Christmas at the beach, but now we have a Hangi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hangi) at home instead because Dad still has to milk the cows over Christmas!

  3. I live in California, so as hard as we try, we can never have a snowy Christmas. We just end up eating tamales ^^

  4. I don’t have any Christmas traditions, but I prefer the cold weather.  I usually just hang out with whoever, and then visit with my mom a couple of hours.

  6. If I did celebrate Christmas, I think I’d want it to be in the winter (even though, like you, I prefer scorching heat rather than freezing cold) just because I imagine it would be nice to gather around a warm fireplace :D

  7. I have a pretty typical Aussie Christmas. Family over, big old barbeque at the park, running around spraying people in the eyes with insect repellent, pushing people into the pool. Yeah. Hate the heat, but better than snow. XD
